The Table Café in Southwark is one of the hidden gems of the South Bank. Shaun Alpine-Crabtree, who with partners from the architectural practice Allies & Morrison, founded the restaurant over a decade ago and has been at the helm ever since.
The restaurant’s commitment to impeccable sourcing and quality British ingredients has been evident since day one. A ground-breaking collaboration with homeless charity St Mungo’s now sees The Table take herbs and vegetables on a daily basis, providing both revenue for the charity and an ongoing confidence boost for the workers in the allotments. A two star rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association is proof of Shaun’s commitment to sustainable and ethical sourcing.
Their all-day dining menu has proved to as popular at their award winning weekend Brunch menu so fans of The Table’s pancakes and waffles can now enjoy them mid-week too.
Whether you’re a returning friend or a new customer, Shaun looks forward to welcoming you to The Table Cafe. You can contact him at: firstname.lastname@example.org.

Prosecco Frizzante Organic La Jara (crown cap) NV
Softly floral fuzzy peach and apricot. Lovely soft fizz, perfect balance. Touch of sweetness but you don't notice it.
Frizzante Rose Organic La Jara NV
Pale coral in colour from 10% of red Raboso grapes in the blend, this semi-sparkling rosé Prosecco has attractive redcurrant and strawberry aromas and is a little fuller than the white. Just off-dry and very moreish.
Champagne Collard-Picard Cuvee Selection Brut NV
A great value grower Champagne from a small, family-owned producer. A vibrant, medium-weight style with crisp green apple and biscuit flavour. The perfect sharpener.
Olivier Coste Rose, Languedoc 2014
A fresh, dry, pale rosé from the insiders’ secret of Côtes de Thongue in southern France. Light, but with a head-turning squeeze of raspberry and melon fruit.
Cruz de Piedra Garnacha 2014
Rich plum and blackberry fruit with some underlying cedar and cinnamon spice. Smooth, juicy and easy-going, this is a straightforward, crowd-pleasing red.
SOLI Pinot Noir 2013
Pure and perfumed, this has cherry, clove and cinnamon aromas with sweetly earthy Pinot fruit underneath. Medium-bodied, with a sappy, resinous finish. Dangerously drinkable.
Chianti Rufina 'Cedro' Lavacchio 2011
Chianti is very variable in quality: this one is a winner. Each sip starts with deliciously ripe black and red cherry fruit, then finishes dry and savoury. A food-friendly wine with concentrated, long-lasting flavours and real elegance.
L'Appel des Sereines Syrah, Francois Villard, N Rhone 2012
This could only be from the Northern Rhône; violets, lilies and freshly cracked black pepper all soar from the glass. There is blackberry and black cherry fruit underneath and a spicy finish. A captivating wine that never fails to seduce.
Ar Guentota Malbec, Belasco de Baquedano, Mendoza 2011
Densely coloured, very full-bodied and packed full of concentrated flavour; blueberry and blackberry compote inlaid with coffee bean and wood spice. A velour-textured wine of considerable polish and vibrancy. Intense, juicy, long and totally harmonious, this is an exceptionally fine Malbec.
Chateauneuf du Pape, Roger Perrin 2011
A traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape from a small family-owned estate that has recently been receiving considerable acclaim. This has a wonderfully complex nose of Victoria plum and thyme alongside meat jus and leather. Rich and indulgent but not overly potent, this is savoury, balanced and altogether rather regal. If any wine can make you feel like Henry VIII, it’s Châteauneuf.
Domaine Horgelus Sauvignon & Gros Manseng 2014
An electric crackle of pithy pink grapefruit and pineapple tang. Crisp, juicy and fresh.
A A Badenhorst Secateurs Chenin Blanc 2014
Incredibly vibrant, packed full of life and energy, this has flavours of yellow plum, lemon rind, honey and a zing of lemon sherbet on the finish. It’s full-bodied and packed full of flavour but still refreshes. Extraordinary value for money.
Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis 1er Cru 'Fourneaux' 2011
It smells like a handful of wet seashells scooped up from the beach – it could only be Chablis. And a good one; it’s intense, with mouth-watering lemon juice acidity and a long, mineral finish. Just what you want from a mature bottle.
Riesling Weingut Winter 2013
Packed full of luminous fruit flavour, this dry Riesling is intense and enlivening. Grapefruit, pineapple and lime zest along a keen mineral edge give this shimmering wine incredible purity and length of flavour
Bourgogne Chardonnay Domaine Thibert et Fils 2014
Affordable White Burgundy is hard to find. But here’s an up-and-coming producer from Pouilly-Fuissé who is destined for great things. This has inviting apricot and orange blossom aromas with a hint of spice underneath. On the palate it’s rich, with more stone fruit and a touch of honeycomb. Beautifully poised and balanced, it’s a wine of great class
